Clear Braces Chandler, AZ

If you are considering getting clear braces to straighten your teeth or repair a bite problem, you are not alone. Patients of all ages are turning to this method over traditional metal braces. Whether with clear aligners or invisible ceramic braces, you can achieve a new smile and feel good about your appearance. Before you get this treatment, however, it is helpful to understand how this process works and how to care for the appliance.

A comparison between different teeth-straightening strategies

In years and decades past, metal braces were the way to align teeth properly. These braces use metal brackets and wires, along with elastic bands, to place teeth properly. This occurs when the braces put pressure on the teeth, shifting them gradually. Metal braces can work well, but they also stand out and can irritate the gums, tongue, and cheeks.

Clear braces are similar to their metal counterparts but are made of ceramic instead. This makes the braces virtually invisible. This could be preferable for people who are self-conscious about their appearance. Aligners are removable trays and fit over the teeth much like teeth-whitening appliances.

Removal of aligners

Metal braces remain on the patient’s teeth throughout the treatment period. This is usually at least 18 months but can be as long as three years, depending on the severity of the person’s dental issues. Aligners do not have to stay in the mouth constantly. Patients should wear them about 21 to 22 hours a day, taking them out for cleaning and during meals.

To remove them, the person should place a fingertip along the inside of a back molar and slowly pull the aligner away. After doing this, the patient does the same thing on the other side of the mouth. Patients who struggle with this may request from the dentist to use a tool. The dentist can demonstrate how to do this.

Removing clear braces

Like metal braces, ceramic braces are not removable by the patient. Treatment time for the clear variety is usually similar to that of metal braces, though it will vary from person to person. Once the treatment is over, the dentist will take off the braces. After removing the braces, the dentist will fit the patient with a retainer.

Care of aligners

Clear aligners will be more effective when the patient takes good care of them. The wearer should remove the aligners a couple of times a day and rinse them under warm water. Brushing the trays at least twice a day with a fluoride-based toothpaste will help to prevent food from building up in the appliance. It is also wise to take out the aligners during mealtimes.

Get the results you want

With straighter teeth, you can enjoy a brand-new attractive smile. Clear braces and aligners can help you achieve this goal. Knowing how to remove aligners is critical to good maintenance.
