Chandler Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Therapy Chandler, AZ

Another of the restorative dentistry services that we offer at Canyon State Dental is endodontic, or “root canal”, therapy. We usually recommend endodontic therapy to restore a painful tooth that’s been damaged by deep decay, infection or an injury. Once the root canal treatment is over, the saved tooth will look, feel, and function like new again.

    Root Canal Treatments We Offer

Although many patients get nervous about undergoing root canal therapy, the gentle endodontic treatment method that we use is virtually pain-free. To get started, digital X-rays are taken of your jaw and teeth. Once you’re positioned comfortably in the exam chair, we’ll numb the immediate area and isolate the affected tooth.

Our dentist will then make a small access hole in the tooth, and then remove any damaged or infected pulp in the tooth’s root. Next, a special medication will be injected inside the cavity, or “canal”, to kill any remaining bacteria. We will then place a filling in the tooth to keep the bacteria out. It’s also a good idea for endodontic patients to have a dental crown placed on top of the tooth for added strength and protection.

Why Would I Need Root Canal Therapy?

The pulp inside a tooth contains tiny blood vessels and tissues that make up the tooth’s center. When the health of a damaged tooth is threatened due to deep decay, an infection or injury, these signs could indicate that you need root canal therapy: ul class=”bullet-list no-underline”>
  • New and/or sudden pain radiating from a single tooth
  • Swollen gums
  • Tooth mobility
  • Lingering pain that even wakes you up while sleeping
  • Bad breath
  • Sores on gums
  • Unusual mouth sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Once you start experiencing any of these signs it’s best to schedule a consultation with our dentist. At that time we will then explain your treatment options, including endodontic therapy and the placement of a dental crown.

Are There Side Effects of Getting a Root Canal?

In general, endodontic therapy is a safe and effective treatment for someone with a root canal issue. After the root canal treatment, your mouth will probably feel a little sore and tender for a couple of days. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen usually help alleviate the pain. If they don’t, we may be able to prescribe something stronger.

You may also experience some swelling in the area. To reduce swelling and discomfort, we recommend placing an ice pack against the cheek for 15 minutes at a time. Chewing should be avoided as much as possible for a week or so, especially anything hard or sticky. Once the healing process is over you’ll enjoy a strong, healthy tooth that looks and feels like new again!
